So, I totally stole this from a new blog that I'm obsessed with called Broadway Dish. But, apparently it's a game that has been passed down, so I don't feel too bad using it on the blog.
Here's how you play. From the moment that Bernadette Peters goes into the refrain of the song (not that ad-liby verse part) keep tapping the down beat of the music with your hand or foot or something. Now DON'T STOP keeping time. No matter whether she's 8 bars behind, just keep tappin that foot. It's hilarious! I mean this is the most serious back-phrasing I have ever heard in my life.

That is hilarious! At one point I'm tapping and looking at her and listening to the orchestra and something is DEFINITELY wrong. Ahaha...
haha! I literally started laughing out loud!
andrew, the moral of the story is that if the song won't wait for Bernie, she's sure as hell not going to wait for it.
She's Bernadette. end of story.
That was so funny! XD
Shoot, I'm first chair in band and I had trouble keeping the same beat. I just had to look down and try to keep tapping and I looked up again and it was like....wait a second....How can she be THIS off?!
Nice game.
I guess that's one way to fill dead space!

Pitch.
Rhythm.
Fame.
Apparently you can scrape by with only two of the three... ;)
The game along with the totally dramatical hand movements make me think she's had a few drinks before performing. Haha
The game was such fun though; it made me say "wtf?"
i will say this without the fear of being criticized, but you know what, i actually enjoyed the fact that she was off. it added a kind of spoken-word quality to it that was cool. granted, when i tapped by foot to the intended beat, she was off, but if i didn't expressly focus on it, then it was enjoyable. go bernie!
p.s. congrats are in order for celia for "juno" and mkc for off-broadway "altar boys"! woohoo :)

My "patron diva" happens to be Bernadette Peters. In fact, we share a birthday! I can't hold this against her, but it is hilarious...
