New favorite video! The insanely brilliant Leslie Kritzer has hit youtube with a new series of sketches that I'm banking on going viral. Grampa Scralph does hilarious street interviews with some theatre folk. Note the amazing Umich cameos.

New Andrew's Blog Today!

Can you believe it's been a year?
I totally forgot to celebrate the Blog's first birthday a couple days ago. It seriously blows my mind to watch this first blog and see how far it's come. Please notice how many times I annoyingly just explain what's going on. Oops, of course now I've learned it's far more entertaining to "show" what's happening rather than "tell." But it's also nice to notice that even the first episode has elements of the same guerilla film making that we still use today. So happy birthday blog! It's been an incredible year.

Also let's wish a REAL Happy Birthday to Vanessa! Go post on her wall if you haven't already.

Awesome new show I'm working on
So I'm really stoked to be working on this new project next week. It's called VOTE! The Musical and its a hilarious, musical depiction of the events surrounding a high school student council election. It's hard to think of a show that seems quite as topical or timely considering the obvious state of our country. I also get to play the pseudo-villain, which couldn't be more fun. Plus, the creators have gone all kinds of grass-roots and have made this killer youtube music video to get the word out about VOTE!. I sadly wasn't involved with the project at the time of it's production, but wish I would have been. You'll see how I would have gone gaga over their sweet film-making.
Also check out their website. You might even hear a demo song freshly recorded by your very own favorite blogger...

15-year-old going for broke in CHARLIE BROWN
Thanks to Andy for the tip on this one! Who even knew "Beethoven Day" had the potential to be a power vehicle for a 15-year-old
high school student?! Apparently Hannah DeFlumeri did. This girl's voice is riDONKulous. I mean she is giving you full-voice popped high G's in the first 8 bars. Umich MT Class of 2014??! I hope so.
HOLLA!

New GIFTED GIRLS tomorrow at 9PM

Guess who's gonna be a guest star on tomorrow's episode of THE GIFTED GIRLS?
Give you one guess :D
I'm so excited to catch this episode! It was incredibly fun working on it, and let me tell you, those Oberlin kids put us Umich folk to shame when it comes to film making. During the day of shooting that I was present for I held a 15 ft boom mic, watched a 3 point lighting kit get installed on set and helped carry a couple-thousand-dollar camera. Actually that's a lie. I never helped carry that nice % camera. It's definitely made me aware of the level of film-making that I should be learning how to do for the blog. Get ready for episode 4, it's gonna be pretty great.
So to review:
ya'll have got 2 things to watch tomorrow! GIFTED GIRLS at 9PM and then THE ROCK SHOW probably very soon after.
Happy viewing,

Good News for Umich/UrInTown fans!!
Tomorrow THE ROCK SHOW will be posted on the UrInTown account. THE ROCK SHOW was a concert put on by students from the University of Michigan's musical theater department to celebrate new, developing, and unsung rock musicals in a genuine, late night, rock show. So get ready for nodesy belting, loud drums and big hair. I got to watch a handful of the videos already and they are beyond HOT. They did an amazing job and it seriously sounds like a real rock concert. It was so fun to watch all these kids who have mad good technique pack up their Lerner & Loewe for an evening and just freaking ROCK IT OUT. Look for the vids tomorrow around TONY time.

Sex, Drugs & Bedpans
Um this video kills me. I mean come on, any video that commences with an 80-year-old woman cutting up a line is probably worth putting on the blog.

Fun interview
Hey guys, just thought I'd link you guys to an interview that I did for the Stage Door application on facebook. I'm sure most of you are probably familiar with the stage door app, but if you're not, definitely download it. It's a trendy new feature that allows your profile to display the Broadway shows you've seen, as well as get in depth interviews with Broadway actors and read and write user reviews.
Stage Door Interview
Check it out. Add the app too. It's a great way to get connected with other theatre buffs on facebook and you might just stumble across some pretty fun stuff.

Cleveland's Next Top Model
Okay, this is officially my new favorite youtube video. I have been watching it non-stop for the past two weeks and it's really never getting old. It totes reminded me of America's Next Petite Model, but like actually way, way funnier.

Salvaged from the Umich Vault
This vids always been on private on the UrInTown account for some reason. But it's public now. Here's a clip of "Pinball Wizard" from our school's production of TOMMY. It features Dave Hull, Cary Tedder and Me. I think this was pretty much my favorite show to do at U of M. Sorry for the wonky camera work.
In love

The End of the Road
Well guys, it was a very emotional closing last night. I'm so sad that the tour has finally come to an end. Thanks so much to everyone who trucked it out to the BEE to see us. Your support was amazing and it was wonderful making so many stage door friends across the country. It made touring a lot more fun to know that there were familiar faces (mostly from facebook) at all of our stops on the road.
I've been receiving a lot of messages inquiring about whether the cast & I will be with the tour in the continuing months. I figured I should probably make a statement about the status of the production. The tour will indeed be going NON-EQUITY. This is a very sensitive subject to many union actors working in the field. Basically what it entails is that the production company is switching over to a presenter called Phoenix Entertainment. They will be hiring only NON-UNION actors . I'm not saying that you should all stay clear from this tour, I think SPELLING BEE is a fantastic show and any opportunity to see it should be used, whether it be a community theatre production, at a college, or a non-Equity tour. But as a theatregoer, it is important to at least recognize that these tours are taking jobs away from union actors. Basically, if the tour stayed under an Equity contract, we would still have a job.

It becomes tricky because this production is being marketed to as a Broadway National Tour, and frankly, it's not. There are no non-Equity shows on Broadway. And as a theatergoer, you are a consumer, and thus should think at least a little about the union protections that Equity provides it's performers. Would you buy a clothing made by people who aren't paid a fair wage? The principal is essentially the same.
I of course can't speak on the quality of the non-Equity SPELLING BEE tour as I haven't seen it. Because performers are non-union does not necessarily mean that they are less talented. I have many friends who haven't joined Equity yet and are wonderful performers. I just think that you should be as informed as possible when buying tickets, and let you guys know that the cast that you've seen on Andrew's Blog will sadly no longer be a part of this wonderful production.

HUGE NEWS!
Cara Massey (Umich 07), the RUDELY fierce girl in the center who everyone on youtube is obsessed with (and especially myself), just got her first Broadway show!!!! I'm so incredibly proud. I'm not sure if I'm allowed to say which show yet, but details to follow.
If you've never watched this Umich gem, definitely take a look. It's some of the sickest girl dancers you'll ever see. Choreo by Jake.
